Adobe Extension For Mac

Starting with Creative Cloud 2015, the Extension Manager is no longer available to install add-ons and extensions for Adobe applications. Add-ons are now installed through the Creative Cloud desktop application. To install third-party extensions, you can use the Extension Manager (ExMan) command-line tool.

Adobe Illustrator Document (.ai) This is Adobe’s native Illustrator format, and only Illustrator is able to read this file format.   1. Download and install the Creative Cloud desktop application.

  2. Open the Creative Cloud desktop application, click the three vertical dots icon in the upper-right, and then select Preferences.

    • Ensure that the version of the application is greater than 2.1.2.114.
    • Click Creative Cloud and select Files. Ensure that File Sync is enabled.
  3. Install Adobe applications featuring the add-ons, if they have not been previously installed. For example, if you are installing the Server Behaviors and Database extension for Dreamweaver, ensure that Dreamweaver is installed, too.

  4. As the add-ons are installed automatically, you receive notifications. If you do not see the notifications, go to My Add-ons to install your add-on. If the add-on has been installed but you don't see it in the application, uninstall and then reinstall the add-on:

    • Go to My Add-ons, find the add-on name, and click Remove.
    • Reinstall the add-on as in steps 1 and 2 above.
  5. To verify whether the add-on has been installed, open the web page for the add-on and see the section Where to find it.

    If you have issues installing add-ons, download the ZXP file using the link Download Using Extension Manager under Where to find it. Then, follow the steps in Install third-party extensions.

If you can't install your extension using the Creative Cloud desktop app, follow the instructions to Download / Install this extension using an Extension Install Utility.

You can install extensions using the Adobe Creative Cloud desktop app or the ExMan command-line utility. Choose your operating system below and follow the steps to install extensions. For more information, see Working from the command line.

Install third-party extensions through ZXP files using the ExMan command-line tool. If you do not have the ZXP file, contact the extension vendor.

Before you begin, make sure that your version of the application supports the extension.

  1. Extract the files to a location on your computer. In the example below, the files are extracted to C:Exmancmd_Win.

  2. Download the ZXP file and copy it to the same location. In this example, the ServerBehaviorDatabase_1_0_0.zxp file is copied to this location.

  3. Right-click the command-line tool and select Run as administrator.

    Note:

    Close the application related to the extension before you proceed with the installation.

  4. In the command prompt, navigate to the folder containing your extracted files. In our example, the location is C:Exmancmd_Win. To navigate to this location, run the command cd C:Exmancmd_Win.

    Note:

    Commands are case-sensitive. When using the command-line tool, make sure you maintain uppercase and lowercase letters for the text you type.

  5. To install the extension, run the command ExManCmd.exe /install extension-filename.zxp

  6. To verify the extension being installed, run the command ExManCmd.exe /list all

  7. Open the application related to the extension, and follow instructions in the user guide to locate the extension. Ensure that you open the correct version of the application.

On MacOS, use the Terminal application to install extensions. Remember that commands are case-sensitive.

  1. Download the ZXP file and place a copy on the desktop.

  2. Extract the contents of the downloaded ZIP file and copy them to the desktop.

  3. Open Finder, select Application > Utilities, and double-click Terminal.

  4. Run the command ./Contents/MacOS/ExManCmd --install extension-filename.zxp to install the extension.

    If you run into permission issues, you can run the command using elevated privileges. Prefix sudo to the command. For example, in this case, use sudo./Contents/MacOS/ExManCmd --install extension-filename.zxp

    Enter your password at the prompt and press Enter. It's possible that you won't see the cursor moving or the text being entered as you type.

  5. Run the command ./Contents/MacOS/ExManCmd -- list all to verify that the extension has been installed for the product.

  6. Open the application related to the extension and follow instructions in the user guide to locate the extension. Be sure to open the correct version of the application.
