How do I make a PDF fillable in Acrobat Pro? Jgoldmiller Apr 14, 2016 4:06 PM I just switched my from an old Mac to a new Mac with a new operating system (now El Capitan) and had to redownload my Adobe Acrobat Pro. Download the project files to follow along with the sample file, or use your own form. Open Acrobat and choose Tools.Find Prepare Form and click Open to browse to the file you'd like to convert to an interactive PDF form. Alternatives to Acrobat and Acrobat Reader for simple operations such as merging PDFs.

These directions are for the Mac version of Adobe Acrobat Pro (version 9). Others should be similar.

I suggest you start with a Word document that you have as a template and save ('print') a copy of it as a PDF. See step 5 so data can be saved directly into the form.

1. Open the PDF in Acrobat and start the Form wizard under the Forms menu.

2. Choose 'Use the current form' and click on 'Next...'. It will quickly scan and finish.

3. Delete any unneeded fields such as signature field, add fields as needed.

4. Make sure tabs are ordered in a convenient/ logical way.

5. 'You can save data typed into this form' - Enable Reader users to save form data (if appropriate) Ordinarily, Reader users can't save filled-in copies of forms that they complete. However, you can extend rights to users of Reader 8 and later so they can do so. In Acrobat Pro and Pro Extended, these rights also include the ability to add comments, use the Typewriter tool, and digitally sign the PDF.

Open a single PDF, or preview a component PDF in a PDF Portfolio. If you are editing the form, click Close Form Editing in the upper-right corner of the form .

Do one of the following:
(Acrobat Pro and Pro Extended) Choose Advanced > Extend Features In Adobe Reader.
(Acrobat Standard only) Choose Advanced > Extend Forms Fill-In & Save In Adobe Reader.

Other versions of Acrobat: Save data in interactive or fillable forms (File > Save As > Reader Extended PDF > Enable Adding Text In Documents).
(Acrobat Pro) Type in non-fillable forms (File > Save As > Reader Extended PDF > Enable Additional Features.
(Acrobat Pro) Add comments or digitally sign PDFs (File > Save As > Reader Extended PDF > Enable Additional Features).

Do you need to limit filling in more text than can be printed in a text entry field (or box)? When in form editing mode, double click that text field and uncheck 'Scroll Long Text'.

It is not worth spending any more time on these instructions. Tell me of any errors so I can correct them. Feel free to ask me for help.

I'm using Adobe Acrobat Pro XI and when here's the prompt I'm initially presented with:

I click on 'Create PDF' and I get an 'Open' dialog.

How To Put A Fillable Pdf On Wix

I figure maybe it'll create the PDF when it doesn't exist so I enter in a non-existent PDF and get a 'File not found; Check the file name and try again' error.

Going to File -> Create says I can create PDF's from files, scanners, web pages, etc, but there's no option to let me create one from scratch. I guess I could create a blank page in Word, print that to a PDF and then open that but that seems like a rather indirect way. Is that really the only way to do this?

Before Acrobat X and later XI were released there was an option in the Acrobat menu to create a blank PDF. This option has now been moved to the Tools Pane under 'Pages > More Insert Options choose Insert Blank Page (Shift-Ctrl-Q or Shift-CMD-Q)'.

If you want to add the option to create a blank PDF back to the File menu then you can do that using a small JavaScript that that is available from here:

Adobe is not an editor. It is used to create PDF files from other existing document formats. That is why it is opening the file dialog is asking you what document you want to create it from.

You create a PDF by converting other documents and resources to Portable Document Format.

What I do is I have created a template.

From word document.

Then just open that template and save it as new pdf document.

For Acrobat DC, Click on the Tools Tab > Create PDF

From there, there's an option on the bottom to create a blank page.

Wow. Who'd have thought such an obvious and simple task would prove so obscure. The blank page that's created by the Tools method is not A4 by the way.I'd recommend downloading one of the many free A4 PDF Templates online and making your own A4 Template (with margins, etc) from that.

In my version (Acrobat XI - Windows 10 Pro) the keystroke is Ctrl+Shift+T (this can also be found in the Tools pane under 'Insert Pages-->More Insert Options-->Insert Blank Page' just as Rowan remarked).

So, when you start Acrobat, rather than going to the File menu, just press Ctrl+Shift+T, and Acrobat gives you a blank page, which you can modify and save under any name/location you like.
